UK MUSCLE PROFILE, SEPT 2003 Name: Tony Montalbano Date of Borth: 13th June 1971 Nationality: British/Italian Residence: Aylesbury Occupation:Gym owner Questions asked by Jason Rickaby & Jon Harris-
Jason: After years of competing on the natural Body building scene, Tony Montalbano (Monty) has established himself as one of the premier competitors within the under 70kg division, often dropping down to the under 65kg category when called upon. The quality of Tony’s physique is undoubted and plain to see for even the most limited Body building fan. From his trademark sliced quads, his great biceps and perfect calf development, Tony is as close to the complete natural Body builder as many fans will ever see. His showing in the 2003 season has surpassed anything we have Previously seen from Tony Monty. To put it simply, he has improved greatly. His showing at the Central BNBF 2003 was by all accounts his best ever, with an almost ideal combination of size, cuts and aesthetics. Making him the favourite to capture the ANB under 70Kg class and placing him high on the list of possible winners at the 2003 BNBF finals in Edinburgh. One thing is sure, both finals are going to be hotly contested and the BNBF final with the re-kindling of old-rivalries and the re-opening of old wounds will be a sight to behold. To say that I, for one am looking forward to it is a serious Understatement. So without further ado, lets meet Tony Montalbano.
Jon: You always seem to enjoy competing Tony, you enter lots of shows and always stay in good shape. How do you manage to compete so often without Burning out?
I think this year with the major changes in my diet, has been by far the easiest year of dieting. When you want something in life you must make sacrifices and when I''m not competing I miss it. I keep that thought in me when I feel like bingeing! I''ve been dieting since January, the day after my daughter was born. I was 12 st 6lbs and had the B.N.B.F Central in my mind! Before the 2002 A.N.B British finals, I''d promised my wife that I was having a year off to be 100% husband and father. My first baby was due at Christmas, but how could I miss doing the first natural b.b comp in my own hometown? So it''s been non-stop since! Apart from the Central they were all last minute decisions! As in each one I had a client from my gym doing them & had to be there for them! But sorry to say this but I find it real boring to just watch! The mistake I did last year was I only did one! I believe it gets me in better nick with each comp, I can assess how I’m looking and it keeps me focussed! But I do have a few days off after each one! The way I see it is if I''m in shape what have I got to lose apart from £30 on dream tan! I didn''t even change my diet the last week; or pump up for them! That''s how serious I took them! Saving it for the important ones! The A.N.B finals will be my 9th competition this year! As for burning out, I have a couple of days off after a comp & I eat what I want. And up to 2 weeks out from a comp, a weekly Indian meal out with the family on leg day! The other thing I realised was at school I never won anything on sports day and so wanted to win to make my parents proud! So I suppose I''m making up for it!
